Strahd

Strahd casts greater invisibility, then climbs up the wall with spider climb, hiding in an inconspicuous area.

Alaera

Kaine yields to Alaera, who uses Detect Thoughts to attempt to locate Strahd. She has about a 50/50 chance to guess the right cone, but fails at a 97%.

Sid

Sid can also Detect Thoughts, and searches in a different area from Alaera, happening upon the correct arc. He detect's Strahd's thoughts, and indicates in the correct direction.

Strahd uses a legendary action to scurry another 30 feet away.

Kaine

Kaine sprays the area with fire from Fire & Ice, hoping to illuminate the inivisible vampire, but misses, as the target is no longer present. He arches an eyebrow at Sid.

Strahd uses a legendary action to carefully sneak up on the party.

Round 2

Strahd goes first.

Strahd

Strahd seizes Sid, attacking unarmed (with advantage due to stealth), hitting a 17 vs 15 AC. Sid suffers 14 necrotic damage, and is grappled, DC 18.

Strahd attempts to bite Sid, but Kaine attempts an interrupt (Kaine 4, Strahd 12) and fails. Alaera attempts to interrupt (20) and succeeds. She reaches forth, taps Sid on the shoulder, and Time Hops him one round into the future.

Strahd uses a legendary action to seize Alaera, hitting a 13 at best, missing.

He then continues his multiattack, attempting once more to seize Alaera (20+9), with critical success. She suffers 28 damage and is grappled.

Kaine

Kaine reaches for Strahd's invisible form, attempting to drain his spell. He has disadvantage, but achieves an 18 Sympathy check, which beats Strahd's 16 AC. He drains 5 Mana from the spell, ending it.

Strahd uses a legendary action to bite Alaera, but she expends her psionic focus to immediately cast Time Hop on herself, disappearing.

Round 3

Strahd remains visible, and only he and Kaine are on the battlefield. Alaera controls when she and Sid re-appear.

Strahd and Kaine both want to go first. Strahd rolls 13, Kaine rolls 14.

Kaine

Kaine goes all-in, drawing Alastor and charging. He attacks at a 27, hitting for 31 slashing damage. He attacks again, hitting a 30 for 41 slashing damage.

Action Surge! Kaine takes another Attack action.

Kaine hits a 29 for 42 more slashing damage. Strahd has suffered 114 damage this round, and is very badly injured.

At the end of Kaine's turn, Strahd uses a legendary action to move 30 feet away and up a wall.

Strahd

Strahd casts Greater Invisibility on himself.

Sid

Alaera chooses this moment for herself and Sid to reappear.

Sid looks to Kaine, who indicates the direction Strahd moved. Sid casts Dragon's Breath on the vicinity, using a 6th-level slot, inflicting 27 fire damage, DC 18. Strahd passes the save, with 26, taking half damage (13).

Round 3

Strahd regenerates 20 HP.

Strahd wishes to go first, and does so uncontested.

Strahd

Strahd casts Fireball on the party with a 5th-level slot, inflicting (1d06) 35 fire damage.

Alaera uses her readied Time Hop to disappear.

Sid does not dodge, but takes only 17 damage.

Kaine activates Devil Trigger, becoming immune to fire damage.

Strahd uses a legendary action to move 30 feet, and is now deep among the eaves of the ceiling.

Sid

Sid intuits that Strahd is hiding on the ceiling, and spends 2 Sorcery Points to cast Detect Thoughts as a bonus action. However, he chooses the wrong area, and detect nothing.

Frustrated, Sid casts Fire Storm, blanketing virtually the entire ceiling in deadly fire, inflicting (7d10) 45 fire damage, DC 18. Strahd fails the check, but chooses to succeed instead using Legendary Resistance, suffering only 22 damage.

Strahd uses a legendary action to drop down to the ground, about 30 feet away from the party.

Kaine

Kaine, frustrated, is forced to ready a charge for the appearance of Strahd.

Round 4

Strahd regenerates 20 HP.

Strahd chooses to remain hidden, hoping to more fully regenerate, intuiting that the party has no net healing ability (he is correct).

Kaine

Alaera appears. Kaine casts Transfusion to heal her and Sid for 30 points each, losing 60 HP himself.

Alaera

Alaera casts Augury, asking whether it would behoove Sid to cast a Cone of Cold in a given direction (about a 50% chance that it would: 45 = yes). She nods to him. The entire exchange was telepathic.

Sid

Sid whips out his Staff of Power, and begins to channel cold from it. The immense 60-ft cone will easily overlap Strahd, and the damage could be lethal. Strahd attempts to interrupt (22 vs Sid's 4, he wins).

Strahd leaps forward, charging Sid from invisible, attacking with unarmed (20+9), critically hitting for 14 damage plus a grapple, which interrupts Sid's spell.

Kaine's readied action goes off.

He uses a Great Slam. In Devil Trigger mode. With the Oathblade.

His hand sizzling from the pain of wielding the good blade (he suffers 42 holy damage this round), he swings it at the form of Strahd, with disadvantage (13+13), hitting a 26, inflicting 72 slashing and 11 radiant damage (Strahd suffers 22 due to vulnerability).

The holy blade penetrates Strahd's heart, and he dissolves into mist. But even as the mist creeps away to find a home in the vampire's coffin, Sid wraps it inside a Wall of Force.

As it creeps up the wall to escape, Alaera opens the jar she readied for this encounter, violently sucking in all air. The mist is captured, and she seals it tightly.
